From the perspective of donors: why some fundraisers succeed while others fail
To get their points of valuable insights on fundraising, I interviewed more than 30 donors of the highest caliber who have given millions and millions of dollars to various organizations charities, government departments and agencies. I asked them why some fundraisers succeed while others fail.
These are the qualities and characteristics of the donors felt made successful fundraisers:
- relation sincere – Above all, successful fundraisers are sincere.
- Personal integrity – Successful fundraisers are frank, honest and always act with integrity.
- The knowledge of their organization Charities – Fundraising successful are well informed.
- Clearly defined objectives – fundraisers clearly successful mission, needs, and the possibility of a donor should help accomplish the mission.
- Regular communication – Successful fundraisers keep donors in the loop.
- Insurance profitability – Successful fundraising show donors that their money is doing what was promised.
- Credibility – The success of fundraising donors use "funds for the intended purpose.
- Matching gifts – Successful fundraising lead thinking of gifts or matching grants to donations from donors is growing.
- Deserving cause – the successful fundraising help donors feel they make a useful contribution to a good cause.
- A shared vision – successful fundraising seek donors who share the vision of the organization and want to make a difference.
- Passion – Successful fundraisers believe in their cause as they help themselves.
- The common interest – the successful fundraising to find donors interested in their mission.
- Enthusiasm – Successful fundraisers are enthusiastic about their cause.
- Quality Presentation – presenting successful fundraising charity in an attractive, concise and articulate manner.
- Gratitude – Fundraising successful must have an air of gratitude, regardless of the amount of the donation.
- Persistence – Successful fundraisers are persistent without being offensive.
On the other hand, what are the qualities and characteristics of the felt makes fundraising donors do:
- The lack of personal relationships – One of the most common reasons that fundraisers fail is that they have not established a relationship with the donor.
- Negative characteristics portrayed – If something is said or done that is running the red flag "for the donor, the fundraising will be very probably fail.
- Lack of sincerity and conviction – Failure comes when fundraisers are not sincere and did not have a strong belief in their charity.
- Poor Communication – Failure is imminent fundraising not reporting, including communication on charity and keep in touch with the donor.
- Lack of clear objectives – raising funds without clear objectives leads to a lack of balance and action.
- The lack of integrity – Any sign of a lack of fundraising integrity, and the donor will slow down, back up, or require responses.
- Perception ingratitude – fundraising that donors rarely give a personal thanks for their gift or they use it as a springboard for the next request.
- Despair letters – letters despair are not effective, well received, or soon forgotten.
- pressure sales techniques – high pressure sales is a serious deviation.
- Lack of knowledge – Fundraisers fail because they can not meet questions that donors ask.
- Inaction – fundraising Many fail because they do not get the message to enough people.
- Waste – Fundraisers fail when they spend not donor money wisdom.
- Lack of interest – raising funds that are rarely necessary homework to find out if the potential donor is still interested in the charity.
- Inappropriate Satisfaction – fundraising unsuccessful do not have time or care to know how the donor expects to be appreciated.
- Forgetting the obvious – if a fundraiser does not leave a donor with all the necessary information, the donor can not give.
- Wasting time – Potential donors do not appreciate when fundraisers are insensitive to their time and schedule.
After a donor perspective can help make the difference between success and failure as a fundraiser!
